That piece of carrot is not going to eat itself, but its smoother sides are going to make it a little trickier to pick up than the irregular shape of the broccoli. And so while Yuri is doing his level best to fit the chopsticks into his hand for the greatest chance of success, out of the corner of his eye he sees Katsudon turn to glance over his shoulder. It's only in his peripheral vision, so he doesn't notice the facial expression, but it does distract him from the immediate task.
'Look,' he says, head still bent over the chopsticks, 'if you want to go back, I told you it's fine.' His hair is starting to fall into his eyes, so he reaches up to push it back over one ear. 'I'm going to be here for a -- '
It's then that he turns his head enough to catch sight of the look on Katsudon's face, and the last word stops in his mouth.
